- US-Japan Business Conference: The primary joint activity of the
USJBC and Japan-US Business Council is the Annual U.S.-Japan Business
Conference. Alternating between the United States and Japan, this
hallmark event provides opportunities for USJBC members to network and
discuss timely bilateral and regional business issues with senior
Japanese executives and engage with high-level US and Japanese
government officials. Through a combination of plenary, industry and
topic-specific break-out sessions, participants are able to cover broad
and specific issues of concern to their companies. At the conclusion of
the conference, the Councils issue a detailed Joint Statement providing
policy recommendations to both governments. The 47th US-Japan
Business Conference will be in Tokyo.
- Joint Staff Meeting: Joint meetings are held with working level
representatives (e.g. Vice President or Director of
International/Government Affairs) to assess progress on ongoing
matters, issues and Working Group activities, and initiate new
activities. The 2010 meeting is in Tokyo.
- Working Groups: The two Councils collaborate through Working Groups
to address and follow up on issues of mutual interest. Current Working
Groups include Economic Integration, Health Care Innovation, Financial
Services, Labor Policy, and Energy and Environment.
- Special Meetings: When possible, the USJBC organizes meetings
between senior and lower-level executives and U.S. and Japanese
government officials in Washington and Tokyo. Meetings have included
those between USJBC members and the Secretaries of Treasury and
Commerce, the U.S. Trade Representative, and, more regularly, officials
at working levels.
