Unique Japan Connection – The USJBC is the only US-Japan business organization with a strong Japanese counterpart (Japan-US Business Council) and history of joint work. In the last five years, the Councils have played a significant role in advancing issues such as a possible US-Japan Economic Partnership Agreement, revision of the US-Japan tax treaty, M&A rules in Japan, and Japanese regulatory and pricing policies in pharmaceuticals and medical devices.
Identification as a Japan Leader – At time of growing concern among Japanese officials and executives that US companies are “passing” Japan, awareness that your company is engaged in trying to improve US-Japan economic relations and the business environments in both countries will be noticed.
Japan-Asia Link -- Japan is a key player in the Asia-Pacific region through its efforts to reach bilateral and regional trade agreements, develop regional financial arrangements, initiate an East Asian Community, and set the regulatory framework and product standards. Even as US companies compete with Japanese companies, cooperation with them through the USJBC is an important means through which US companies can connect with Japanese industry and government to help shape this dynamic – particularly in 2010, when Japan chairs APEC.
New Attitude, New Approach – The USJBC is adopting a new attitude and taking a new approach by focusing on senior operating executives and issues/opportunities of primary concern to them in Japan/Asia, narrowing the range of issues by setting priorities and mobilizing behind them, and pushing harder for concrete results that help companies.
